FAQ

FAQ – Custom Scores

What software do you use to create scores?

All scores are created in Finale. Sibelius is not used, and Dorico may be considered in future updates.

How is a balanced arrangement defined?

Balance is determined according to the ensemble, ensuring all musical elements are clearly audible. Density, register balance, dynamics, and line readability are carefully considered.

What if I don’t have reference material?

No recordings or scores are required. Provide style, ensemble, and goals, and the score will be created accordingly.

What if the score does not meet the brief?

Consultation and score creation are included in the price and are not refundable. Minor revisions are applied if needed.

Payment method?

All payments to TheScoreLoom™ are exclusively via bank transfer. For Tailored Scores, an additional license fee may be paid via the distributor (ArrangeMe/Hal Leonard). An invoice is issued upon receipt of payment.

How can the PDF be used?

PDFs come with timestamp and digital signature. Use is limited to the purchasing ensemble for live performance or internal educational purposes. Sharing, lending, or commercial use is prohibited.

Can I record or publish performances?

Live performance is allowed; recording or commercial release requires a separate agreement.

Types of Scores Provided

  • Ready to Play: Standard performance license granted through an authorized distributor; non-exclusive; live performance permitted; resale prohibited.
  • Tailored Scores: Arrangement fee paid to TheScoreLoom™; license granted through an authorized distributor; non-exclusive; live performance permitted; resale prohibited.
  • Bespoke Scores: Exclusive license granted to the commissioning ensemble for an agreed period; delivered via email; live performance permitted; any recording, distribution, or commercial use requires authorization from the rights holders of the original work (if applicable); resale prohibited.

Is the license time-limited?

For Bespoke Scores, exclusivity is granted for the period agreed at order. For Ready to Play and Tailored, the license is non-exclusive and governed by the distributor’s terms.

Do commissions contribute to the catalog?

Tailored arrangements may contribute to TheScoreLoom™ catalog for global distribution through authorized channels, ensuring compliance with copyright laws.

Do I need to credit the composer or TheScoreLoom™?

Yes. In concert programs, recordings, or public performances, you must credit the original composer and arranger as indicated on the score. Minor internal adjustments cannot remove or obscure the composer/arranger credit or TheScoreLoom™ branding.

Can the PDF be shared among musicians in the same band?

Yes, only among active members of the purchasing ensemble. Sharing with external parties is strictly prohibited.

How are revisions handled?

Minor revisions are included (notation corrections, page layout, guides/cues, doublings, octave transpositions, compatible instrument substitutions, minor key changes). Substantial modifications (stylistic/harmonic changes, ensemble conversion, adding new sections, reordering) are treated as new commissions and quoted separately.

What if the band changes instruments or ensemble?

Minor adjustments within the original ensemble are included. Substantial changes require a separate agreement.

What if I request major changes after delivery?

Substantial modifications (key changes, adding sections/instruments, special effects) are extra and quoted separately.

What if I am not satisfied with the score?

No refunds are provided for reasons of subjective dissatisfaction. Minor corrections and revisions are included; substantial modifications, due to copyright restrictions, require an additional fee and the issuance of a new version for publication.
